| Battle of Bannockburn |
Battle of BannockburnBannockburn village sits just south of Stirling. It gets its name from the Bannock Burn, a burn (small stream) that runs through the village and flows into the River Forth. The Battle of Bannockburn was made world famous by the historical action-drama movie, Braveheart, produced and directed by Mel Gibson but unfortunately not entirely accurate in its portrayal of William Wallace. Fought in 1314, Bannockburn was a pivotal battle during the 13th/14th century Wars of Independence between Scotland and England. Wallace Monument The Wallace Monument and visitor centre is located near the site of the battle and outlines the background, history and an audio-visual experience of the battle and its significance in Scottish history.
